Bugs, dead things and toys

Liam got to spend all day Saturday, Saturday night and most of the day Sunday with his Papa & Nina, Brent's parents.  While Brent, Jax & I went to the museum and had our own fun, Liam had fun of his own.  He got to go fishing.  Even though he only lasted 30 minutes and didn't catch anything, he had a great time.  He got to help his Papa in the garden.  He pulled weeds, helped spread compost and picked onions.  Listening to him talk about it was almost as much fun as being there. He talked to his "Aunt Header" on the phone.  He got to take Georgie and Jersey for a walk.  He got to go to the Lexus dealership with his Nina, drink lemonade and watch the fish swim in the fish tank.  He loved every minute!  When I talked to him Saturday night, he was so excited to tell me about everything that he had done yesterday.  He was also so tired he fell asleep in the chair with Nina.

I was really looking forward to him coming home this afternoon.  I got a big smile and a hug when he saw me.  He couldn't wait to show me his dominoes that he brought home.  I have to admit I was not too excited to see all of these little green tiles since I went through and am getting rid of about half of the toys in our house.  But, he was so proud of them!

Then, I saw a different box on the kitchen counter.  And the words "Why are there dead bugs in a box on our counter?" were coming out of my mouth.

Upon closer inspection, I realized that one of these quite large bugs wasn't so dead.  I was informed that we are going to release it.  So, the next words were "Are you going to take it outside to release it or are we releasing it in my kitchen because it is crawling out of the box?"  Daddy, Liam and Jax headed outside with the rhinoceros beetle.  I breathed a sigh of relief and then I heard Liam running back in the house yelling, "Look, mommy!  It's tickling my neck!"

The beetle was finally released outside somewhere.  I quickly realized (again) that I might as well get used to bugs and dead things and toys that I don't think we need because my boys love all of that!  And, because they love them, I'll at least have to tolerate them if I can't join them in the loving part.

UPDATE:
Liam has started wanting to fall asleep with his light on.  We are fine with that since it keeps him in his room and we just turn it off before we got to bed.  Well, this is what I found when I went in to check on him, give him one last kiss, tuck him in and turn off his light for the night.

Guess instead of tolerating these things, I'll at least learn to like them since Liam loves them so much!

  2. I'm trying to remember the first time I ever intentionally slept in the same bed with a bug. :)
