Bastrop State Park Beach People Camping Trip

Our annual camping trip took place at Bastrop State Park this past weekend. In September 2011, 96% of the approximate 6,700 acres of the park burned. We went on a hike led by a Master Naturalist from the park. He said that there was "a hell of a fight" to save the historical structures built over 80 years ago. He also told us that a fire if this magnitude occurs every 500-1,000 years and 1.5 million trees in the park were lost. Our cabin and the entire state park were built by FDR's Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s.

Our morning hike with the Naturalist. Everyone except Brent, Liam and the McGraths bailed in the first 20 minutes. It was hot and way too informative for the kids. 

We celebrated Liam's birthday. Everyone was enthralled by the red icing even though it tastes terrible. 

The pool opened this weekend so the kids had a blast playing. The water was so cold so every once in a while there would be a group of kiddos laying in the sun on the concrete. 

And fishing. There was finishing and casting. The boys didn't catch anything other than moss.
